Physical Health Promotion in Agriculture–Online Course from WCU

Although agricultural workers have an increased risk for developing musculoskeletal health conditions due to the physically strenuous nature of their work, providing access to and awareness of educational resources that focus on prevention, self-care, and management of these conditions can be challenging.

A team of agricultural health stakeholders in partnership with the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Western Carolina University has developed two online video-based learning series available to you at no cost. The purpose of these series is to improve access to preventive musculoskeletal health education, and to evaluate the effectiveness of the eLearning delivery format.

Each series takes approximately 30-45 minutes to complete and are intended for:

  • Community health workers, healthcare providers, farm owners, and crew leaders
  • Farmworkers/Agricultural workers (in Spanish)

Participants will learn about:

  • Common musculoskeletal conditions associated with agricultural work
  • Factors that increase risks
  • Protective/preventive factors to reduce risks
  • Screening and basic first aid for common musculoskeletal conditions

Please share these series and additional resources located at farmworker.expertlearning.net with others. If your organization would be interested in receiving additional training in-person or via webinar, you can contact John A. Carzoli, DPT, for more information.
